2018 Member Appreciation Event Retrospective
PMI-CIC members and their guests experienced an enjoyable evening of networking, music, wine, and tasty finger foods last Tuesday. The Board of Directors, along with their team of volunteers were pleased with the turnout. Hopefully, in years to come, more and more of the 800 plus members of the PMI – Central Iowa Chapter will be able to attend events like this one.
The team that was brought together to plan this event was extraordinary. Winston Churchill is quoted as saying, "Those who plan do better than those who do not plan even though they rarely stick to that plan." That was true for this event. Many things changed from the initial plan; including the venue, the food, and even the type of event. The following individuals were involved in preparing for or marketing this event: Alex Marckman, Brent Humphries, Brian Sardou, Charity Dunwoody, Craig Hinson, David May, Diane Higgins, Jen Pietila, Lejla Vehabovic, Lynn Reed, and Stephen Rodriquez. Planning began at the May PMI-CIC Chapter Meeting where Craig Hinson, PMI-CIC President-elect, asked for volunteers to assist with this event. Two of our event volunteers, Lejla and Charity were so impressed by the energy of the planning group that they accepted director positions on the PMI-CIC Board.

The event took place at Jasper Winery (jasperwinery.com), located near Grey's Lake and Water Works Park. The wait staff was very pleasant and had a great time interacting with our members. The night's entertainment was provided by Larry Berenguel (larryberenguel.com, Facebook - larryberengueliowa). Larry is an acoustic guitar player, singer, and songwriter. Larry played a variety of music and was thoroughly enjoyed.
There were two companies that catered the event; Taste to Go (tastetogo.net) and Cyd's Catering (cateringbycyd.com).For those that were at the event, Taste To Go was at the front half of the table and Cyd's Catering was at the back half. Each provided a variety of food that paired well no matter what you were drinking. A special shout out to Emily (Taste To Go), who went above and beyond with her hospitality and attentiveness to details.
In addition to the food, there were fabulous prizes given away. There were two interactive time frames in which individuals were encouraged to get to know each other. For the first hour people needed to find out the favorite project of five individuals. For the second hour people needed to find out the least favorite project of five different individuals. The prizes were very unique and invoked a lot of participation. Prize winners were randomly drawn from participant entries that completed the task.
And the prizes were …
Flyington Drone – Take pictures and videos while flying a drone from your smart phone.
Shockwave Speaker/Charger – It's a speaker and a phone charger!
Onyt App-Enabled Smart Button – the name says it all. This app makes everyday tasks as easy as clicking a button.
And the winners were ...
Flyington Drone - Stacey Cole and Christy Jaworski
Shockwave Speaker/Charger - Olivia Turner and Vinoth Kumar Sekar
Smart Button - Tracy Smalley and Stacie Franklin
It was a pleasure seeing many of you at this event! We hope that we showed you just how much we appreciate you and your contribution to our PMI Central Iowa Chapter! See you at the next Chapter Meeting!
