John has been featured on television shows such as PAX's "It's a Miracle," MSNBC's "Morning Blend," NBC's "the Weekend Today Show," and FOX's "The Edge."
He has been featured in the Washington Post, the New York Times, and the Chicago Tribune.
John was also invited to give not just one, but two TEDx talks.
Consultant / Advisor for The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee
John founded the United States Olympic Committees Paralympic Military Sports Program, which showed wounded, ill, and injured service members how to use sports as a tool for their rehabilitation. His program was the impetus for the DoD Warrior Games and Prince Harry's Invictus Games.
John was also called to assist USA Bobsled to embrace a new normal mindset by building positive team dynamics before the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
Team USA faced many challenges before the games. John researched the unique challenges facing the Olympic team and brought a new perspective that united the team toward their common goal.
John's Story: From Olympic hopeful, to an amputee in a single week.
On May 17th, 1994 at 5:29 pm, John was a four-time all-American collegiate track athlete, a two-time Olympic Trials Qualifier, and an Olympic hopeful in the 400m hurdles.
On May 17th, 1994 at 5:30 pm, John would never run another hurdle in his life.
While training to be an Olympic hurdler, one misstep in a practice session left him with a life-changing choice: Live the rest of his life in a wheelchair or amputate his left leg.
John chose amputation and was fitted with a prosthesis. For any other athlete, this would have been devastating. John found a way to embrace a new normal mindset.
He rehabilitated by swimming. 22 months later he made the Paralympic swim team. It was at the Paralympic Games, in Atlanta, John was introduced to Paralympic track and field. Four years later, he won the Paralympic silver medal in the long jump in Sydney, Australia.
His keynote address, "Hurdling Adversity: Embrace the New Normal," takes a deep dive into three areas which lead us from fear to freedom.
